The final competition for the title of Best Slovenian Sommelier 2018 took place on Tuesday 8 May. It took place in the recently renovated Vila Vipolže.

The semifinals started early in the morning with seven competitors: Valentin Bufolin, Blaž Draksler, Martin Gruzovin, Nataša Kimovec, Kole Kostadinov, Nik Ražman and Rok Ražman.

At the end of these events, the top three won the right to play in the finals: Nataša Kimovec, Valentin Bufolin and Martin Gruzovin. The competition was very hotly contested and the last three showed their high level of knowledge and skills in front of many visitors and television cameras.

The title went to Martin Gruzovin who will also be the candidate for the ASI competition of the Best Sommelier of the World in Belgium in 2019. The second place went to Valentin Bufolin and the third to Nataša Kimovec.

The competition was supported by many wine producers. For rewards, the winner received a one-week Champagne trip that will allow him to discover many champagne houses. A prize offered by eVino, the company owned by Gašper Čarman who was the Slovenian candidate at the last World Championship held in 2016 in Mendoza.
